Etigovir is a class of integrase inhibitors and the first anti-AIDS drug of the quinolone class.

HIV integrase inhibitors are the third class of anti-HIV drugs discovered after nucleoside/non-nucleoside anti-reverse transcriptase inhibitors and protease inhibitors. The first integrase inhibitor was Leitgevir developed by Merck and was approved by the FDA for HIV/AIDS infection in 2007. The elvitegravir developed by Gilead is the second integrase inhibitor approved by FDA Chemicalbook in 2012 after Leitgevir, and it is also the first anti-HIV quinolone integrase inhibitor. The virological effects of these two drugs are similar, but elvitegravir only needs to be taken orally once a day, which is more compliant than retegvir (twice a day). Viruses that are resistant to other anti-AIDS drugs can also be suppressed, with good compliance and tolerance.
