Elderberry extract is the fruit of Sambucus nigra L., a plant belonging to the family Lonicerae. It is used as medicine from the whole plant, harvested in summer and autumn, and dried in the sun. Elderberry, also known as: poke tree, capsule tree, fair old tree, big leaf elderberry, big leaf capsule y, Shujin tree, camphor tree.
