The scientific name of phenylalanine is α-amino-β-phenylpropionic acid, which is a kind of α-amino acid, including L-type, D-type and racemic DL-type, among which L-type is one of the essential amino acids for human body. Phenylalanine is a new amino acid first discovered by Schulze and Barbieri in the late 1880s, isolated from lupin seedlings, and proposed an empirical chemical formula of C9H11NO2. Erlemeyer and Lipp successfully synthesized phenylalanine by chemical synthesis for the first time in 1882, but did not explore its spatial configuration. Then Fischer accidentally isolated phenylalanine when he hydrolyzed casein with hydrochloric acid in 1901. Since then, his research on phenylalanine has been more in-depth. It has a melting point of 283°C, an isoelectric point (25°C) of 5.48, and a solubility of 27g/L in water at 25°C.
