Corosolic acid is derived from the extract of Lagerstroemia grandiflora (commonly known as Barnabas, rich in the Philippine Islands). The results of in vivo and in vitro experiments show that corosolic acid promotes the absorption and utilization of glucose by the excitement of glucose transport, thereby achieving its blood sugar lowering effect. The excitatory effect of corosolic acid on glucose transport is similar to that of insu lin, therefore, corosolic acid is also called plant insu lin.
