Dimetridazole is mainly used as a veterinary antibacterial drug. It is the first choice for the prevention and treatment of swine dysentery. It can also be used as a feed additive to promote the growth of livestock and poultry. A small amount is used in daily chemicals.

It is a growth-promoting agent for livestock and poultry and a broad-spectrum antiprotozoal drug with high efficiency and low toxicity. It can be used for pig feed with an amount of 50-100g/t; it can also be used for chicken feed with an amount of 125-200g/t.
